Now these scientists claim they have been able to do a kind of hybrid cloning and stem-cell work. Stem cells are used instead of "somatic" cells to clone the animal.

That means the cells have a much greater chance of surviving and making the cloning successful. Somatic cells have a few percentage points chance of success but stem cells reportedly have up to a 20 percent chance at success.

That means many more animals can be cloned with stem cells, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. And pigs specifically can be cloned. Why should you care about cloning pigs?

Because pigs that grow to a similar size as humans can donate their organs to humans so diseased organs can be replaced by healthy ones in a transplant.
